Music Appreciation: ‘Bird Song’ Love

Happy Friday the 13th!

On this warm and cozy evening I wish to share something beautiful with you!

Well you might not think it’s extraordinarily beautiful right now, but in 2 days or 5 months or 7 years you might listen to it again and be like, WOW this is incredibly extraordinarily beautiful.

That’s what happened to me.

I bought The Wailin’ Jennys album Bright Morning Stars a few years ago around the same time I saw them perform in concert.  I totally fell in love with this album, and it was such a lovely and moving experience to hear them perform live.  But when I listened to this CD over and over again as I usually do when I buy CDs, this one song didn’t necessarily stand out to me more than the others.

Then last week I was looking through some of my old CDs that I haven’t listened to in awhile so I could play something new while driving to work.  Bright Morning Stars looked extra shiny to me, so I chose it.

Now as I sit typing here I’m listening to ‘Bird Song’, and I’m getting emotional because it is SO SO SO beautiful to me.  I’ve actually been listening to this song for a week now … maybe five times a day, something like that!  When I find a song I love I have to listen to it over and over and over and over and over and over again.  … and over again … and then over again.

I feel like ‘Bird Song’ and I are just beginning to get to know each other though, and we have lots more connecting to do.  🙂

I particularly love it right now because the lyrics are speaking to my heart in a meaningful and relevant way.

When I really open up to the beauty and the meaning of this song, I cry, and not just a few tears, it makes me want to sob with joy.  And right now joyful sobbing feels like a glorious thing! 😀

You can read all the ‘Bird Song’ lyrics on their website here.

Here are the words that get me the most:

“I smell the flowers blooming, opening for spring
I’d like to be those flowers, open to everything”

Musically speaking I adore all of this, but especially the part in the song that plays in this video from 2:49 to 3:16. Angelic!

Enjoy and savour the lusciousness of the harmonies!

 What’s your current favourite song?

Love,

Jodi

🙂

P.S. ‘Storm Comin’ plays right after ‘Bird Song’ on this youtube video stream.  ‘Storm Comin’ is also my favourite.  😀
